iPhone 14 is rumored and expected to be introduced in early September of 2022. Rumors also suggest we could see a redesign, the biggest camera update in years, and more.
Even if we are not certain it will be called iPhone 14 since the previous iPhone released in 2021 was branded as the iPhone 13. On this note, it is expected the 2022 iPhone be named the iPhone 14.
Apple marketing names stay under wraps until the last minute. This means we’ll have to wait until 2022 to learn more about what that year’s release will be officially called.
There might be a change in the “pro” and “pro max” versions. Apple has been known to use the “s” and “s max” in the past which they may decide to revert to.
Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple will drop the notch in 2022. Starting with the high-end iPhone 14 Pro. Instead of the notch, the iPhone 14 will use a new “pill hole” design. Rather than a simply hole-punch cutout used by many Android phones, Apple will use a combination of the hole punch cutout and a pill-shaped cutout.
If the most recent report is accurate, iPhone 14 preorders would start on September 9. This would be just two days after the anticipated September 7 Apple event.
Rumored iPhone 14 Price
Unfortunately, a recent clutch of rumors and tips has the iPhone 14 Pro set to get a $100 price hike. As such, the iPhone 14 Pro might hit $1,099 and the iPhone 14 Pro Max may hit $1,199.
On the flip side, Kuo also predicts that the iPhone 14 Max, will be priced at under $900 USD. This makes it Apple’s cheapest ever 6.7-inch iPhone. It’s likely to be a very popular option for that reason.
USB-C on iPhone 14 pro
There are rumors that suggest Apple would finally go the USB-C port route with the iPhone 14 Pro, and that would make sense as many of its devices already have USB-C connectivity. However, more recent rumors claim there Apple will stick with Lightning over USB-C but switch to updated Lightning ports with faster USB 3.0 data transfer. That comes as the EU moves closer to making USB-C the standard charger for portable devices like phones.

- iPhone 13 Pro Max – 6.68″
- iPhone 14 Pro Max – 6.69″

Don’t expect a big change in the number of cameras the iPhone 14 Pro will bring, as the Pro phones are tipped to stick with the standard combo of a main, ultrawide, and telephoto array. Given how Apple phones regularly feature in our best camera phone lineup, that’s no bad thing.
But one leak has the iPhone 14 Pro tipped to get a 48MP main camera, which could finally make a change from the 12MP cameras Apple has used for years. While Cupertino’s computational photography is some of the best around, having more megapixels to play with would likely give the iPhone 14 Pro more scope when it comes to processing light and details; we could be at a time where megapixels matter once more to Apple.
